Our Surgeons
The Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge is a group of four general surgeons who practice general surgery with a special emphasis on minimally invasive surgery. Information concerning the members of our group can be obtained elsewhere on the web site. Before going further it may be helpful to define general surgery. A specialist in general surgery is trained and qualified to provide surgical care of the whole patient to include a wide range of systems and anatomical regions. The General Surgeon’s areas of responsibility include the gastrointestinal tract, the abdomen and its content, the breast, the skin, the surgical treatment of cancer and the endocrine system to name a few.
Our group was stared in the 1980s by Drs. Karl Leblanc and William Booth. Dr. Booth has since retired, but the group has grown to four full time members. In addition to the four full-time members, we also sponsor a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. The minimally invasive fellow is a fully trained surgeon who joins our group for a year in order to gain additional expertise in advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures. Roughly three years ago we also became involved in the training of general surgery residents from the Louisiana State School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Two residents rotate with our group where they learn the finer points of minimally invasive surgery.
The Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge strives to practice surgery with an emphasis on quality, access and cost effectiveness.
